A possibly unique compact 5 inch GPS chart plotter that is designed to run from a 5 volt supply and originally intended as an emergency plotter that can run from a phone bank battery (or any 5 volt supply). It has its own GPS receiver built in just the same as a standard KP38 model and comes with a Puck type GPS aerial and UK and Ireland chart.
As it is configured now it is as if it is a standard KP38 using the supplied 12 volt to 5 volt adaptor that is supplied so simply connect to your boat’s 12 volt supply. This model is all about power saving and to reduce power consumption the plotter does not have NMEA in or out which means no connectivity with another device (you cannot send or receive NMEA data). Apart from that, with the standard KP38 firmware selected) the 38S becomes a standard KP38 but without NMEA. Switching back to the S version firmware (a couple of button presses only) and it will be revert to its power saving features to run using a phone power bank or other 5 volt source power.

Use this a 5-inch chart plotter with a built-in chart for the whole of the UK (or any other area on request) It has all the functionality of a standard KP-38 apart from an NMEA data facility (needed to communicate with other devices) which is omitted on this model to reduce power consumption. Or keep it as an emergency plotter in the event of a catastrophic loss of all electronic navigation instruments.
Runs on just 5 volts : only 500 m/a current from a 5 volt supply at maximum brightness. On a 12 volt supply via a small included power supply that outputs a stabilised 5 volts, current draw from the battery is just 200 m/a.
